The dandalion sculpture was for a traveling exhibit and was constructed by using a rubber ball and coating it with a custom mix of fiberglass resin and bondo. Once the surface was around 1/8 thick the top was cut and inner structure was fabbed into place. There was an inner steel structure that was welded to support the unit and the outer arms were then punctured through one side and out the other. Prior to closing off the top, the ball was filled half way to help give it some bottom weight for hanging. This was designed by Exhibit Works and took 3 days to build.
